The Online Tutoring business has grown by leaps and bounds and is projected to grow in the future,  Let’s make a resolution together to help your child close their gap in reading.

Hi, my name is Ann Mitchell, I’m a wife, a parent, a Special Educator and a tutor/entrepreneur. I own Castle Rock Online Reading Tutor

I know I have done this before but…

Let me begin by just sharing a little background about myself first. I have lived with my family in Castle Rock, Colorado since 2006.

Before moving to Colorado, we lived at Misawa Air Base in Japan for 7 years. I am married to a wonderful man who retired from the US Air Force, an amazing father and he currently works for the Douglas County School District. I could not ask for anything more.
We have four amazing children (seven if you count the dogs and the cat) who all have recently completed their journey through Douglas County schools. Our three four-legged members of the household, Mattie our fluffy golden doodle and Molly our lab. They are both about 8 years old, best of friends, and such an important part of our family. We find it impossible to separate them and one will not go outside for a walk without the other. Then the new kitty Snickers. A new Collie puppy too! Oh my so I guess that makes eight.

As a parent, I struggled to be inside the classroom setting as my own child struggled with some of her own issues going through school. So, in 2012 we decided as a family that I would stay home to make sure our daughter could continue with her path and I was to be there to support her. During this time, every day I googled stay at home jobs to do, I tried many different things from Wellness companies (which I still love), I tried my hand at making my own planners online to making clay jewelry (which was a disaster). It was hard.
As a Special Educator, my love for helping children was still in the back of my mind. So, I searched Online Tutoring and found Joanne Kaminski. This is where life begins…

As I was beginning my online business I needed to help contribute financially for my family as well. So, I opened Castle Rock Tutoring here in beautiful Castle Rock, Colorado, in 2013.

To this day I continue to support children in my community at the library, in their homes as well as online. In the meantime, I continued to work on my online presence but my biggest downfall was as a Special Educator I had all the knowledge but I could not figure out how to transfer it to an online platform.

That is when I took the next step and took a course offered by Joanne (my first of many). The Reading Interventionist Program was the best thing I have done to learn more about sharing my knowledge online. It showed me and with lifetime access it continues to show me techniques on how to help my students with reading in an online setting. I have been helping children in reading on an online setting via Zoom for the past year. Zoom is a video conference platform that allows you to be able to see your student. It’s as if you were sitting in the same room.

Since I have been tutoring most of my things that I have used were online anyway. It is so much easier than sitting in traffic and carrying all my materials with me. Now all I need is to meet them virtually.

A normal session lasts approximately 50 minutes. I usually prepare a book to read from either RazKids or readworks.org depending upon their current level, I normally have them do a fluency passage, comprehension questions and if the student needs to work in other areas I have those available as well. To stay organized I separate all the students into separate folders on my computer.

My passion is to help children close the gap in reading, become confident in themselves and with school activities. Many of my fellow tutors, families, and members of my own family say my superpower is patience. I am confident that I can help your child or a child you know. Go to my site, fill out a contact form, and I will provide a free reading assessment. Let’s work together or if you feel on the line, look at my website and I wish you and yours the best on this journey.
